Important societal issues require to solve problems of increasing complexity. A key vector of progress relies on multi-scale and multi-physics approaches. The aim of the winter school is to make an overview of the different approaches, numerical and experimental techniques allowing to tackle this complexity. All the courses are illustrated through various up-to-date examples. Two entire days are dedicated to practical excercises on « high-tech demonstrators » based on the most recent techniques and methods developed by partner laboratories of Tec 21.
The week starts with 2 theoretical sessions dealing with multiscale approaches in mechanics and numerical and experimental tools and methods, followed by two practical sessions during which the attendants will be dispatched in the laboratories to manipulate some of the most up-to-date equipment used in research. The last day is dedicated to the specific problem of nanoscale mechanics.
Located in the valley of the river Isère and surrounded by the mountains, Grenoble hosts one of the best French universities with an international reputation in science and technology. The winter school takes place on the University campus of Saint-Martin-d'Hères, 15 minutes away from Grenoble town center by tram.
The participants are invited to meet on Sunday evening for a welcome dinner in town before the beginning of the school. On Monday, a cocktail is organised after the first day of the school, the participants expose a poster about their work and have the opportunity to talk about science with each others. On thrusday evening all the participants and the teachers meet for dinner in an easy-going atmosphere.
